What was Blood Brothers?

“Blood Brothers,” one of the longest-running musicals in London’s West End, has been a massive success from Broadway to Australia. Scooping up numerous awards for BEST MUSICAL, the play receives a standing ovation at almost every performance in the West End, where it has been running for two decades.

Proceeds from the HITS performance of the Willy Russell musical went to REACH – a vocational training program for disadvantaged youth in Hanoi. The issues of poverty, class struggle and longing for self-betterment dealt with in the play would be as recognizable to those benefited by Vietnamese ticket sales as they were to the original British audiences. The production depicted the divergent stories of fraternal twins separated at birth, who unwittingly become friends before life thrusts them down different paths, raising questions about whether nature or nurture plays a greater role in man’s fate. Their stories converge again when their love for the same girl leads to tragedy. The emotional journey starts with hilarious laughter but barely leaves a dry eye in the house by the closing song.

Reviews of the London show:
"Gripping, gritty and superbly hummable. It's a must." The Mail On Sunday
"The audience rose to its feet with near-religious rapture." Sunday Telegraph
"A masterpiece - if you haven't seen it, go. If you have, go again." News of the World
